Hello to my family, friends and supportive community,
I am participating in The Run For Southlake once again this year and I'm so excited to combine teams with the Southlake's Maternal-Child Staff Team as we come together as one; community and hospital! Kayla (my co-captain and paediatric nurse) are hoping to raise awareness and support the Maternal-Child Health Program, in order to benefit the very smallest patients cared for at Southlake.
As many know, the NICU is a place that is near and dear to our family. In 2017, our twin boys entered our world 8 weeks too soon. They were unable to breathe independently and were rushed to the NICU for urgent care. Connor and Kyle experienced significant difficulties in many areas, but the team of doctors, nurses and therapists at Southlake were phenomenal and always remained compassionate. During our 26 days in the NICU, we watched the NICU team work miracles, not just with our children but for many other little ones as well. Their tireless effort and constant care for our most vulnerable and teeniest people is what drives me to give back and support future Southlake families.
Beyond the amazing efforts made for our twins, Southlake has delivered and cared for our 2 older children as well. As a family, we have received care within many departments of the hospital, including L&D, PP, NICU, PAEDS, ENT, ED and OT. We are so grateful to have this incredible resource so close to home, but funding is extremely limited and hospitals rely heavily on community support and donations... please join me in supporting our incredible hospital.
It is my personal goal to raise $26 000!!! How will I do that??
Well, I am going to run 2.6km every hour, on the hour... for 26 hours consecutively! Yes, that means I will not sleep and I will run all through the night. The configuration 26 is meaningful as our twins stayed at Southlake for 26 days and it is with that in mind, that I set my goal. This translates to 67.6km in only 26 hours! My Run will begin bright and early on Saturday 23rd and I will finish my final 5km together with my family and teammates as we will run together at the In-Person event (April 24), along Davis Drive, in front of Southlake! I welcome you to follow me along this journey @missy.krissy4.
In honour of our 26 NICU days, I have set a personal goal of raising $26,000. I know that’s a big target, but I am committed as a Team Leader, as a proud member of the Southlake community and first and foremost as the mom to 4 healthy children, all born at Southlake!
Please consider supporting our fundraising goal by joining the team or donating today!
Thank you!
