Please join me in supporting our hospital, Southlake Regional Health Centre!
I’m participating along with my kid Charlie in the Nature’s Emporium Run for Southlake to raise vital funds for patient care. I am doing it to support Southlake but also in gratitude for the care I received there this past year.
In October of 2023 I was admitted to Southlake and it turned out I had blood clots in my left leg. The medical staff at Southlake provided exemplary care and did everything to save my leg but on November 11th (Remembrance Day) they had to amputate my lower left leg below the knee to essentially save my life.
I was released from Southlake a short time later and went to West Park Rehab Centre where I was eventually fitted for a prosthetic leg and left there in mid January of 2024.
I am extremely grateful for the great care I received at both Southlake and West Park. Like many recent amputees have had some challenges adjusting to a prosthetic leg and have had to take a few breaks from wearing the leg. Right now I am not using the leg but am hoping I will be able to wear it again soon.
But in the meantime I have begun training for the Run for the Southlake with or without my prosthetic leg. I have been doing training laps at the Magna Centre indoor track as well as on the Tom Taylor trail and already completed several 5ks on one leg with forearm crutches in around 2 hours. I will be taking part in the Run for Southlake on Sunday April 28th along with one of my kids Charlie and have the support of the Run for Southlake Team and they may let me and Charlie leave a little bit early so we will be able to complete the route in the 2 hour window for which the event will be open.
Help me reach my personal fundraising goal by donating today!
Thank you!
