Hi,
Thanks for taking the time read my story. We're all busy with life - I appreciate you giving me a moment to tell you why I'm doing this ride.
As a lifelong resident of the Newmarket area, I've become very familiar with South Lake (formerly York County) Hospital; professionally as a career First Responder and on a personal level.
Whether it's been for numerous stitches and repairs personally, the births of 2 of my 4 beautiful daughters, stitches and repairs or illnesses for all of my daughters, my grandkids, family and friends, the staff at South Lake have always done their best to provide care and comfort in a most professional manner.
Most importantly to me, my Mom - Margaret Swain - passed away at South Lake in December 2022. During her final days, the staff on the floor went above and beyond to make Mom comfortable and provided endlessly considerate and compassionate support to our family.
Over the years I have had numerous instances professionally that have required assisting people experiencing Mental Health issues. South Lake has been the health care facility for the majority of the cases I have been involved with, from all over York Region. The creation of a dedicated Mental Health Care facility, complete with its own intake, is a great step forward in providing relevant, compassionate care to people undergoing Mental Heath episodes. The creation of additional beds and the resultant increase in potential to provide care greatly helps the entire community.
Participating in the Ride is my way of recognizing and thanking the people who make South Lake the excellent facility it is. Please consider making a donation to help the Foundation.
Thank you,
Darrell
