Collectively, the last 18 months have been one hell of a ride! For me, the experience shone a light on the importance of strong mental health. We all had our ups and downs but this is especially true for our youth. At a stage in life where they have little control over their everyday, their reality-and all that they thought was secure-was tossed aside. In Ontario, that suffered the longest and most restrictive lockdowns in the developed world, education was no longer a priority, sports and extracurricular activities were tossed aside and interactions with friends and family were denied. I believe we will be dealing with the psychological consequences of these harsh measures on our youth for decades to come.
I am riding to raise money and awareness for mental health programs. The scarcity of resources and limited access to professional health, when my family needed it the most, scared me more than the covid virus ever could.
Please support me in supporting our youth through this (I just can’t use the word ‘unprecedented’; it is so inaccurate) alarming and unstable time. Their mental health is our future.
